Frequent Questions

How Many Treatments Will I Need?
Because this method addresses each person individually, the number of treatments needed varies greatly from person to person. Some of the factors involved include how long you have had your condition and how deeply rooted it is, the strength of your underlying constitution, and your current lifestyle (i.e., stress, nutrition & sleeping habits, activity level, etc.).

After the initial session we suggest you schedule at least six weekly treatments. Over the six week period, in many cases, we are able to restore balance to your Qi significantly enough that you will notice that the improvements to your health are holding from one treatment to the next. In some cases this may take less than six weeks, or in some cases longer. As soon as your balance is holding from one treatment to the next, we will extend the time between treatments to two weeks, then three weeks, and so on, until we both feel confident that your symptoms are resolved and that your system can maintain health.

Will My Insurance Policy Cover My Acupuncture Treatments?
Many policies do cover acupuncture. We are an in-network provider with most Blue Shield, United Healthcare and Cigna PPO plans and we would be happy to verify your benefits with those providers and bill them on your behalf. You would be responsible to pay at the time of service for any co-pay or deductible that your insurance requires.

If you have another insurance plan, you should check with them to see what coverage you have. Some questions to ask your insurer are what conditions are covered, how many visits per calendar year, and how much you will be reimbursed. If you do have insurance coverage with one of these plans, you will be responsible for payment at the time of service and we will provide you with insurance forms to submit for reimbursement. If your company offers flexible spending, you may use pre-tax funds deducted from your paycheck to pay for acupuncture, and we will give you invoices to get reimbursed.

Does Acupuncture Hurt?
This is a common concern, since our experience of needles usually relates to injections! Acupuncture needles are much thinner—about the size of a human hair. The sensation caused by an acupuncture needle varies. Some people feel a little pain as the needles are inserted, but most people feel no pain at all. It is normal to feel sensations of warmth, tingling, heaviness, or pulling at the needle insertion site. Some people experience a sensation of energy spreading and moving around the needle. This is called the Qi sensation, and it is a good sign that the treatment is working. After treatment, you may feel energized or experience a deep sense of relaxation and well-being.

How Safe is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is extremely safe. It is an all-natural, drug-free therapy. There is little danger of infection from acupuncture needles because they are sterile, used once, and then discarded.

Is There a Cancellation Policy?
Yes,  24 hours advance notice is required for a cancellation without a fee. You may email or call to inform us you can’t make it. We absolutely understand things come up. Giving us at least a day's notice allows us to give that appointment slot to another client.
