What to Expect

Before your Acupuncture Visit

Come in with any questions you have—I’m here to help you. Please dress comfortably, preferably in loose clothing. Please bring a list of medications you are currently taking, along with dosages. Please refrain from wearing scented products (cologne, scented deodorant, hair products, etc.) and please do not wear any makeup, if possible.

Your First Office Visit

The first session typically lasts 1½ – 2 hours. During the visit, I will take a detailed history related to the current and past state of your body, mind, and spirit. A physical examination will be performed, including taking your pulses and observing your tongue. This information will help ascertain the best diagnosis and course of treatment for you. I will then treat you accordingly with acupuncture, while herbs and dietary/lifestyle advice may be given as well. I provide undivided attention during all appointments and rarely leave you alone in the treatment room. Follow up visits typically last 45 min – 1 hour.

After Your Acupuncture Visit

Make time to relax, and be sure to drink plenty of water and get plenty of rest. Plan to refrain from overexertion, working out, alcohol, massage, or soaking in hot water for the remainder of the day after the visit. Between visits, take note of any changes that may have occurred, such as a reduction of pain, reduction in the frequency or intensity of your issues, emotional changes, diminished stress, better sleep and energy levels, and/or an improved sense of well-being.
